Paris: Louis Janet, n.d. ca. 1819. A charming souvenir book in the genre of late 18th and early 19th century French ladies almanacs, illustrated with color plates and attractively bound in red leather and matching slipcase. The text is an anthology of love poetry followed by a titled section, "Petit Souvenir Des Dames," with a plate for each month of the year composed as a blank space for writing surrounded by an intricately designed engraved border. The text is further embellished with hand coloured engraved plates, most of which depict scenes of romanticised landscapes with real or mythological women and cupids. The hand-coloured engraved title vignette shows cupids in a bird's nest on a branch. Grand-Carteret 1854 (but without the calendar). 32 mo (10 x 6 cm); 1 blank + title with hand-colored vignette + 48 pp. + (xvi) pp. monthly souvenir with engraved borders.
Original embossed red morocco, gilt ruled , a.e.g., slightest rubbing to extremities and just a bit of darkening on slipcase; a.e.g; with ribbon tab; scattered light foxing internally.
