Eighth, enlarged edition of the FIGURES, a supplementary and complementary volume to the essential early French gardening almanac, LE BON JARDINIER, which began publication 1755 and and is still being published today. There are , in fact, 51 plates, 2 more than indicated in the sub-title. These depict botanical subjects, such as roots, leaves, flowers and fruits, horticultural practices, such as grafts and propagation by cuttings and layering, and, of particular interest, a variety of garden tools or utensils such as cloches, spades, water pots, rakes, shovels, a fruit picker, etc. In this copy all the plates have careful contemporary hand - coloring. 12mo (16.5 x 10 cm); 90pp. + 51 plates ( of which 5 are "bis") hand-colored copperplate engravings.
