A BOOK OF ANIMALS.
Isleworth, Mddx. Smallberry Green Secondary Modern School 1958. This is the third illustrated booklet of linocut art produced by the 4th Year A, B, and C boys at the Smallberry school. The two others were "Birds" and "Horses and Dogs". This one devoted to less domesticated animals contains large vibrant colour lino-block illustrations of giraffes, gorillas, elephants, lions, seals, and tigers along with smaller cuts, some in colour. Each animal is described with a small amount of letterpress. " The whole has been designed to give a decorative effect rather than a biological one." The illustrations, in proportion to their size, include decorative naturalistic backgrounds for each of the animals. Rather stunning and uncommon. Oblong stapled pamphlet (22 x 26.8 cm) 20 unnumbered pp. with 25 small lino- block illustrations and 12 larger lino- block illustrations, 22 of which are in single colour on a cream background.
Original lino-block printed covers, with lino-block illustration on rear inner end-cover; very minor edgewear; internally fine but for a few marginal printer's ink smudges not affecting text or illustration. A very well preserved copy.
